For something big to happen, something big has to happen. In this case, transforming our roads to cleaner electric vehicles. Yesterday, California announced that the state will ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035. To some, that seems like a terrifying prospect. To others, it’s a welcome form of regulation.
No more petrol cars in 2035?
Let's talk about how you can belong to that second group.
On January 1, 2035, no one will be driving around town in what I assume is a big rig that transforms into a fire-breathing mechanical dinosaur and destroys gasoline-powered vehicles parked in driveways. Sure, it would make for a great reality TV show. But that’s not what the rule says or will do.
Instead, the rule says that all NEW cars sold in the state must be electric. If you currently have a gas car, it's fine to drive it around until you decide to get rid of it. The rule also allows for the sale of used gas cars. The used car dealership down the street is fine. The used car department at the dealership is fine. If you have a 1985 Volkswagen Rabbit Cabriolet and you want to sell it, go ahead. It's fine.
