Last August, streamer Kai Cenat held an illegal PlayStation 5 giveaway in New York City's Union Square, leading to a crowd and eventually a riot.
Social media star Kai Cenat charged with inciting riot after chaos at New York giveaway
The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has finally made a decision in the riots, which took place nine months ago on August 4, 2023. Cenat will no longer face charges in connection with the events that took place in New York last summer, according to reports citing a statement from officials yesterday.
Cenat was fined $55,000, while two others were forced to pay just over $1,000 each in restitution. In total, the approximately $57,000 the city received will go toward damages caused by the event. Additionally, a public apology posted by Cenat on social media, as well as the fact that no new arrests have been made between today and the date of the riot, played a role in the Manhattan DA's office's decision to drop all charges against the streamer.
Cenat’s August 2023 PS5 giveaway in New York City’s Union Square quickly became one of the most frenetic and boisterous streaming events of the summer. Within hours, Cenat’s loyal fans showed up en masse after the streamer posted a video of himself showing off a truckload of PS5s and gift cards he planned to give away to his fans.
