The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch and Google Nexus 7 are two of the most popular 7-inch tablets on the market. Both offer a wide range of features for roughly the same price. Choosing which tablet to buy can be a daunting task. We’ve compared the two tablets head-to-head in a variety of ways to help you decide which is the best choice.
Kindle Fire HDX 7" vs. Nexus 7 (2013)
Depending on your needs, either tablet will perform well. However, if you are looking for long-term comfort and more features while still being able to access your e-books (from Amazon), the Kindle Fire will meet most of your tablet needs.
There are a few factors to consider when looking at the design of these tablets. The first is the size and weight of the device. Both weigh about the same, with the Nexus 7 being marginally thinner and slightly lighter. If you hold the two side by side, it’s hard to tell the difference. The Nexus 7 is slightly taller in portrait mode, while the Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch is slightly wider. This makes the Nexus 7 better suited to holding in landscape mode for video. The Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch is more like a book to read.
In terms of construction, the Kindle Fire HDX feels slightly better, thanks to its composite and nylon construction with beveled edges that feel good in the hand. In contrast, the Nexus 7’s back switches from a rubberized plastic to a matte plastic that doesn’t quite have the same feel and grip as the original Nexus 7.
