Klipsch R-14M – With schematic
The Klipsch R-14M reference bookshelf speakers are about as textbook as they come for reference speakers. As a brand, Klipsch is known for a classic take on professional and home audio. While they haven't quite kept pace with luxury brands like B&O or even consumer brands like Bose in recent years, they've managed to maintain their own quality.
The R-14Ms are a great example of what that means. We used them for about a week in an apartment as part of our main TV and movie sound system, and they did not disappoint. That said, they didn't offer much in the way of I/O (pretty standard for passive speakers) and there were some shortcomings in terms of sound quality. But overall, these are a solid choice if you have a good amp.
If there’s one thing a legacy audio brand can do, it’s build speakers and enclosures with a good design language. The R-14Ms are, at first glance, very basic. They’re just under 10 inches tall and just under 6 inches wide, which puts them in the same neighborhood as virtually every other speaker in the class. They offer a decent depth of around 7.5 inches, a factor that plays a role in the sound quality.
