“Alien: Romulus” notched a second weekend victory at the South Korean box office in another quiet stretch that could herald the end of the summer season.

The horror-action franchise film grossed $2.70 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service of the Korean Film Council (Kofic). After 12 days of release, it has a cumulative total of $9.81 million.

The film's weekend performance represented only a modest week-on-week decline of 24% compared to its opening frame. And the film's share of the weekend market remained steady at 28%.

That meant the overall market was also trending downward – down 23% – with its first weekend delivering a total box office of less than $10 million over ten weeks. A lack of major titles hitting theaters can also signal the end of the summer season – a bustling season in the previous year, often dominated by horror titles. Big local titles like the “Veteran” sequel “I, The Executioner” are targeting the Chuseok holiday crowd in mid- to late September.
