The concert film “Lim Young Woong IM HERO The Stadium” was the highest-grossing film in South Korean cinemas this past weekend, ahead of conventional narrative films 'Alien: Romulus' and 'Pilot'.

Data from Kobis, the box office tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic), shows that “IM HERO” grossed $1.89 million between Friday and Sunday and $3.47 million over its five-day opening period. “Alien: Romulus” earned $1.66 million in its third weekend and has a cumulative 19-day haul of $12.5 million.

However, the local convention assigns the chart rankings based on the number of people in attendance. By that logic, “Alien: Romulus” held on to its top spot for its third weekend, selling another 223,000 tickets, compared to the 87,000 tickets sold for “IM HERO.” The difference is explained by the concert film’s significantly higher ticket prices.

Lim, who mainly sings ballads and dragon songs, appeared on a TV talent show in 2020. With his good looks and healthy, wholesome image, he has since achieved superstar status and a Taylor Swift-like fan base in Korea.
