The lack of pre-installed Linux laptops has hampered the OS’s adoption. But recently, a slew of such offerings have hit the shelves.

In addition to running Linux, these laptops pack some impressive specs. The System 76 Lemur, for example, promises 14 hours of battery life and is powered by Intel’s latest 12th-generation Alder Lake processor. And then there’s Tuxedo’s Pulse 15 Gen2, featuring the thin yet powerful AMD Ryzen 7 5700U processor with a 15-inch HiDPI WQHD 165Hz display.
"Anything that puts PCs with Linux pre-installed in the hands of paying consumers can only help promote and broaden the appeal of Linux, which is generally a good thing," Neil Mohr, editor of Linux Format magazine, told Lifewire via email. "The high specifications of these models indicate that the target market is a specialized, highly skilled segment, but it helps build support networks and market confidence in Linux and its user base."
Michael Larabel, founder and lead author of computer hardware website Phoronix, is excited to see new Linux laptops hitting the market, but he doesn't believe this will necessarily bring more awareness to Linux.
