LCD screens are great, and the quality improves with every new generation of DSLR cameras that hit the market. But many professional photographers prefer using a camera’s viewfinder. We explain the pros and cons of each.
LCD screens have their advantages, but so do optical viewfinders. When it comes time to take a photo with your DSLR camera, you'll have to decide which side of the viewfinder vs. LCD debate you're on.
Unlike the optical viewfinder, the LCD screen shows the entire frame captured by the sensors. Optical viewfinders, even at a professional DSLR level, only show 90-95 percent of the image. You lose a small percentage at the edges of the image.
Digital SLRs are not light and it is easier to produce a bright, sharp image if you hold the camera to your eye to use the viewfinder. That way you can support and stabilize the camera and lens with your hands.
