Paul McCartney is collaborating with the long-deceased John Lennon again using algorithms. The former Beatles member recently said that an old demo tape has been reconstructed using AI. It’s part of a growing trend of using AI to create art that draws both praise and criticism.
“While it’s tempting to experiment with new vocal combinations and reimagine classic songs, we must remember that at the heart of this technology is the power to manipulate and distort reality,” Rijul Gupta, CEO of AI company DeepMedia, told Lifewire in an email interview. “The consequences of abusing this power are not only harmful to the individuals involved, but can also undermine the foundation of trust and truth in our society.”
AI was used to isolate Lennon's voice from a demo track for the 2021 Peter Jackson-directed docuseries "The Beatles: Get Back" about the making of the Beatles' 1970 album "Let It Be."
