Even in his twilight years, Lionel Messi is still one of the best players in the world, as evidenced by Argentina’s run to another Copa America final. EA FC 24’s Team of the Tournament hails Messi as the star of the tournament, awarding him the only 99 OVR card.
99 Messi is actually unfair
The champions of this year’s Euro and Copa America tournaments have yet to be determined, but the Ultimate Team schedule is unforgiving and the Teams of the Tournament for both competitions have been announced a few days early. One thing that couldn’t change the final outcome was the presence of Leo Messi. The 37-year-old legend is once again king of FUT and is now the proud owner of the only 99 OVR card in both Teams of the Tournament.
In addition to the new release, TOTT Messi is the first card to release with an original 99 OVR rating in EA FC 24 Ultimate Team. Until now, there have only been three other cards with the max rating, but Make Your Mark’s Virgil van Dijk and Florian Wirtz got there via dynamic upgrades and FUTTIES’ Erling Haaland is the reward for reaching the top tier during We Are FC Season Eight, which has just begun, so no one could possibly have this card at this point. With Copa America’s irregular schedule, this could very well be Leo Messi’s final appearance at the event, so it’s fitting that he gets finished with the highest honor FUT can muster.
Messi's teammate, Lisandro Martinez, is the second-highest-rated player on the Copa America Team of the Tournament. Other cards that could attract interest are Brazilian winger duo Vinicius and Raphinha, as well as Vini's Real Madrid teammate Federico Valverde, all of whom have a rating of 97.
