A file with the file extension LIST may be an APT list file used in the Debian operating system. It contains a collection of download sources for software packages. They are created by the included Advanced Package Tool.
A JAR index file also uses the LIST file extension. This type of LIST file is sometimes stored within a JAR file and is used to store information about other related content, such as other downloadable JAR files.
Some web browsers also use LIST files, to list words that should or should not be included in the browser's built-in dictionary. Other browsers may use the list for a different purpose, such as describing the DLL files that the program relies on to function properly.
