League of Legends' long-awaited Arena mode is finally back in League Patch 14.9, and while Riot Games is already boasting about the great numbers, some players are already starting to complain about the "boring metagame".
3 MUST go 🚫 👀
Balance boss Matt "Riot Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison kicked off today's Arena conversations by sharing the sheer number of League players who have jumped into Arena since it went live again on X (formerly Twitter). The hype isn't all that surprising, especially considering the map update, improved shop experience (particularly with Anvils and Prismatic items), and an even larger Arena. And that's before Ranked even arrives.
While League developers also plan to push out various Arena improvements, bug fixes, and balance changes in Patch 14.10, some players are already calling for changes, claiming that the current tank and bruiser meta is “boring.” “Everyone only plays those [champions],” another disgruntled fan wrote on Thursday.
If Blitz’s League Patch 14.9 Arena stats are correct, then they’re not wrong. According to these early stats from Blitz, six of the top 10 champions in Arena are tanks or bruisers: Swain, Garen, Mordekaiser, Sett, Singed, and Darius. The rest are high-damage dealers like Briar, Brand, and of course Master Yi, who’s a favorite due to his speed, ability to become untouchable, and his healing. Unfortunately, champions with low-to-no durability and poor defense and health currently have no place in Arena unless they’re paired with one of these notable powerhouse champions.
