A Reddit player started a community discussion on June 24 after saying, “Milking whales is fine and healthy for the game.” They see it as a win-win situation, where Riot Games makes money from whales without it affecting casual players.
"These are products that are clearly made for whales. Riot has said that multiple times. They are the LoL equivalent of a $3,000 Gucci handbag. When you're rich you can buy cool, useless shit, that's life," the player wrote.
They also pointed out that dozens of free-to-play games are actually pay-to-win. With that in mind, expensive useless cosmetics are a better model for almost all players, regardless of price.”
