Former League of Legends World Championship winner TheShy has announced an extension to his competitive hiatus until 2025. After missing the LPL Spring Split, fans were hoping TheShy would return for the Summer Split and hopefully compete at Worlds again. However, it appears his return won’t happen until next year.
Dive into the HUGE changes coming to LoL Esports in 2025
In an interview shared today on X, TheShy reiterated his plans to continue his hiatus this summer, with the goal of returning to the competitive scene next year in improved form.
The top laner formerly associated with Weibo Gaming had initially announced his intentions to retire from the pro scene in November 2023. The announcement came shortly after Weibo Gaming’s runner-up finish at the 2023 LoL World Championship and marked a major setback for the team heading into the 2024 season. At the time, TheShy had emphasized the need for rest and expressed concerns about the toll a long-term pro playing career would take on his physical and mental well-being.
TheShy’s journey in the competitive League scene has been marked by both triumphs and challenges, from his meteoric rise with Invictus Gaming in 2017 to claiming the world title in 2018. After a few difficult years, the top laner returned to the stage at last year’s Worlds Grand Finals and despite falling short in the final against T1, he once again proved his status as a formidable League pro.
