If you’re going to buy Hades 2, you might be wondering who the new main character is. Since it’s a direct sequel, it’s easy to expect the protagonist to be Zagreus, but the reveal trailer showed off a girl instead. Things get confusing because we see Hades being captured and saying “Time cannot be stopped.” This raises a bunch of questions about where she came from, what her name is, and more. These are all valid questions whether you know the bare minimum about Greek mythology or are into God of War games or have read the Percy Jackson books. But let’s not digress, here’s who Melinoe is.

Who is Melinoe? Everything We Know About Hades 2 New Main Character!

The main character in Hades 2 is Melinoe. Also known as Princess of the Underworld, she is the younger sister of Zagreus and the daughter of Hades and Persephone. In this game, Hecate (the Goddess of Witchcraft and Necromancy) rescues her and trains Melinoe to become a Witch. She is trained to be strong enough to be a Titan Slayer, which is important because she must defeat Chronos, the Titan of Time, if she wants to save her family and Olympus.

Melinoe is a demigod and has a very human appearance. Her left hand glows green, possibly indicating that her powers are related to witchcraft. She has one green/gold eye, while her other eye is red. Melinoe has short blonde hair, secured in a Laurel Wreath headband with a crescent moon on the front. Her outfit consists of an orange/saffron dress, accompanied by a neck brace, waistband, and other accessories for her arms and legs. She carries a sickle and dagger, usually as her weapons of choice.

Melinoe is a Greek nymph who is also known as the bringer of nightmares and madness. Her origins in mythology are complicated, as some believe her to be the daughter of Persephone and Zeus (who took the form of Hades) and not Persephone and Hades. The same goes for Zagreus. She was born at the mouth of the river Cocytus.
