Matthew S. Smith is a veteran consumer technology journalist and general-purpose hardware geek. He has been writing about the industry since 2007. Matthew's work has appeared in numerous publications, including PC World, Wired, IEEE Spectrum, IGN, Business Insider, and Reviewed.
In addition to attending the Consumer Electronics Show every year since 2009, Matthew has also attended multiple industry events, including E3, Microsoft Build, and Oculus Connect. He’s been granted behind-the-scenes access to Microsoft, Intel, AMD, and Lenovo, visiting each company’s campuses. This exclusive access led to features on Microsoft’s futuristic quantum computer programming language, Intel’s efforts to miniaturize the home PC, and Lenovo’s insanely thorough ThinkPad endurance testing center.
Matthew was the Editor-in-Chief of Reviews at Digital Trends. He oversaw the site’s evaluation of consumer technology across all product categories. Matthew wrote the style guide, determined evaluation and scoring criteria, and edited hundreds of its reviews. His team reviewed more than 1,000 devices each year. He also supervised the Gaming Editor at Digital Trends.
