With the new 4k Blu-ray, it might be time to admit that streaming music, TV and movies isn't the answer.
Maybe it's time to give up…
The two biggest advantages of streaming over physical media are convenience and cost. Why buy a $10 CD when you can pay $10 for a month of unlimited music? And why go to the trouble of swapping a Blu-ray in a player when you can just sit back and let the next episode of your latest binge-a-thon auto-play? But now, as streaming services become less convenient and prices rise, maybe it’s time to start owning your own media again?
"It's possible that physical media will become popular again, especially among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the tactile aspect of owning movies or music. However, it's unlikely to become the norm for the general public due to the convenience and accessibility that streaming services provide," film blogger Raffaello told Lifewire via email.
Video streaming services are getting worse. Amazon, Netflix, and others are raising prices, services are ending password sharing, and even the apps themselves are getting worse by the year. For example, when you fire up a video streaming app, what’s the most likely thing you’re going to want to do? Watch the next episode of that show you’ve been watching, right? And yet, that next episode is laughably hard to find. Instead, Apple’s TV+, or Prime Video, or whatever, shoves new “content” in your face to keep you hooked on the next thing.
