Dawn Myers had no idea she was entering the tech ecosystem a few years ago when she conceptualized a company that makes devices for women with textured hair. A few years later, she’s still figuring out what this new industry means to her.

“I just saw a need and started creating,” Myers told Lifewire in an email interview. “I still don’t know how I got into the tech ecosystem, but it’s been the most amazing rollercoaster ride since then.”
In 2018, Myers founded The Most, a startup that designs and manufactures technology-driven hardware for women with curly, kinky, and highly textured hair. These electric hair styling tools use an internal heating mechanism that can heat conditioners, gels, and other products while styling.
She decided to start the company after struggling to style her own natural hair, which she says was a three-hour-plus process before she started using The Most. With these hair tools, Myers is working to fill a large gap that women of color have struggled with for centuries.
