Let’s face it – Windows 11’s File Explorer isn’t perfect. The modern look has nixed the top ribbon and removed many useful features, like right-clicking to see the full context menu (just show me more options). And while you can “fix” some of that by making Windows 11 File Explorer look like Windows 10’s File Explorer, you do miss out on new features like tabs and a bit of class.
How to Use the New Windows 11 File Explorer
This is where the Files app comes in (no, not Apple’s). As a standalone third-party alternative to the official one, Files more than retains the aesthetics while adding a few extra options, without diving completely into classic design territory. If you don’t mind the File Explorer design but want some powerful functionality, then you should check out the Files app.
I’ve known about the Files app for a while. But it’s only recently that it’s become a real alternative to the official app. It looks great, is packed with useful features, and can act as your default file explorer. And while you’re reading, I encourage you to check it out for yourself.
Moreover, it is completely free if you download it from the official website (try the classic installer).
