Memento Distribution (“Cairo Confidential”) has acquired French rights to “The New Year That Never Came,” a film directed by Bogdan Muresanu that will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Set in 1989, at the end of Nicolae Ceaușescu's regime, this tragicomedy follows several protagonists on the verge of a nervous breakdown, including an aspiring actress asked to star in a propaganda TV special, two boys on the verge of fleeing, a woman whose entire life is literally on the verge of collapsing, and a little boy who has just sent a letter to Santa Claus.

“The New Year That Never Came” is represented internationally by Sébastien Chesneau’s banner Cercamon and is produced by Kinotopia and All Inclusive Films. The film will premiere in the Horizons section in Venice.
