Meta has announced that it is adding a new feature, Personal Boundary, to Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues to protect people from harassment.
Meta Adds Personal Boundaries to Their VR Metaverse
Personal Boundary creates a sort of bubble around avatars that prevents players from getting too close to each other and preserves personal space. Meta joins the ranks of other VR developers as the feature appears to have been created in response to a recent harassment incident.
Meta explains that the feature keeps player characters about four feet apart from each other, with no feedback if they hit that barrier. It’s similar to how video games put up invisible walls to keep players from straying out of bounds.
Actions that require characters to touch each other, such as fist-bumping, are still possible. You just have to extend your arm further.
