There are rumors of a new, cheaper version of the Meta Quest 3 – the Meta Quest 3 Lite (also known as the Meta Quest 3s). While your wallet won’t take quite as big a hit, you’ll potentially be dealing with the same screen resolution as the Quest 2 (released in 2020). If the rumors are true, the Quest 3 Lite will be released this year. We just don’t know when. The Quest 3 was revealed in June 2023 and released in October. If this year follows a similar pattern, Meta could announce the next headset at any time. Otherwise, they might wait until Meta Connect in September.
The Quest 3 Lite may cost around $200. If that’s true, it will make VR a lot more affordable for more people. For comparison, the Quest 2 launched for $300, and the Quest 3 costs $500. There’s also the $3,000+ Vision Pro, but we can hardly compare it to Apple’s beast of a headset.
There's no word yet on pre-orders for the Quest 3 Lite. Meta will likely allow pre-orders after the headset's reveal.
