AI chatbots have been around for decades and have been used with varying degrees of success. However, the technology is constantly evolving and they may soon pass the much-vaunted Turing test.
Notice the new Meta AI on Facebook & Instagram? You can't turn it off and people are annoyed
To that end, Meta is throwing his Skynet hat into the ring by releasing his latest chatbot, Blender Bot 3, onto the web so we can test out its conversational skills. Just click the link and start chatting, but be nice. We don’t want another Tay on our hands, which was the Microsoft chatbot that Twitter users spent a few hours training to be a racist jerk.
Why did Meta put Blender Bot 3 out on the internet for everyone and their uncle to interact with? It’s all about collecting data to understand and improve the limitations of the underlying AI. That’s how modern AI works. The more data you feed it, the more data is fed into the software, ultimately creating an experience that feels, well, human.
But for now, good old Blendie has a long way to go before it takes over the world or seduces us with the sweet tones of Scarlett Johansson. The conversations often go in circles, with many ending with "I don't want to talk about this anymore."
