More than 100 of the co-production projects reviewed have now gone into production, numerous distribution deals have been signed, early shows have been pitched and business has been done at the Palazzo Barberini, the Rome museum where the event is located.
The setting means that the backdrop is masterpieces by Canaletto and Caravaggio. The event itself has a broad canvas, encompassing animation, fiction, documentary and feature films. The trick for Gaia Tridente, in her third year as director, is to appeal to each of those audiences and make the event feel curated, despite that breadth.
MIA is promoted by ANICA, the Italian Association of Film, Audiovisual and Digital Industries, chaired by Francesco Rutelli, and APA, the Italian Association of Audiovisual Producers, chaired by Chiara Sbarigia.
