The latest Windows 11 led the tech community, including us, to believe that Microsoft had finally made it possible to completely remove the controversial Recall feature. Unfortunately, Microsoft said that it was nothing more than a bug that "will be fixed in a future update."
Microsoft: You can't remove Recall from Windows 11
In a statement to the Verge, Brandon LeBlanc said, “We are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option in the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in Control Panel.”
Microsoft has been quiet in recent days about Recall, an AI feature that saves snapshots of much of what you do on a computer every 5 seconds for later retrieval. But the feature has been doomed from the start due to security vulnerabilities and has yet to launch on Copilot+ PCs.
Microsoft has since implemented many general controls, such as making Recall an opt-in feature, providing an option to disable it, and encrypting stored data, although many argue that they should have been there in the first place. As a result, many praised Microsoft for quickly fixing the issues after the recent update.
