The best keyboard for ergonomics (Microsoft Sculpt)

You can tell that Microsoft put a lot of thought into the design of the Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard. From the manta-style creases that keep your shoulders and hands at a relaxed, comfortable angle to the detached number pad and magnetized risers for more adjustment options when you want them, the Sculpt is a whole package. As with anything new, it took a little while to get used to, but we found our feet relatively quickly thanks to the intuitive, easy-to-use design.

The Sculpt is an ergonomic keyboard with a split design that resembles that of a manta ray. The two halves of the keyboard sweep outward and downward, leaving a raised, empty space in the middle of the swoop design. The keys vary in size, with the keys closest to the split being slightly wider than those on the outer edges of the keyboard. It is made mostly of plastic and makes a bit of a clacking noise as you type. The Sculpt uses a standard layout with a fabric wrist rest up front for added comfort. This intuitive split design combined with the wrist rest helps keep your wrists, hands, and shoulders at a neutral, natural angle to help alleviate repetitive stress injuries that frequent typists are prone to over time.

One unique feature of the Sculpt that we really liked was the function switch. Located at the top right of the keyboard, this switch allows you to toggle the functionality of the keys on the top row, replacing the function key. Options include refreshing the active page, navigating to the web home page, opening the computer’s settings, a play/pause button, switching between active windows, and raising or lowering the volume.
