Microsoft has quietly launched one of the most fun apps I've used in a long time: Journal for Windows 10, a note-taking app.

I am a natural notepad person and a fan of paper notebooks, but ink notes always seem to get lost. Moleskins get lost and I am usually at my computer, so I am still looking for a great digital replacement.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about Journal is that it is a product of Microsoft. The software giant is known for bloated applications, confusing interfaces, and more features than are useful to users. Journal, on the other hand, is a simple, elegant application that is a joy to use.
The problem Microsoft set out to solve seems simple, but it rarely does. How do you take, store, and organize handwritten notes on a computer? I’ve tried dozens of apps in this category, and most have clunky interfaces and other limitations that make me give up and go back to paper.
