'Tis the season of rock reunions — but not for the Smiths, according to Morrissey, who has responded to calls for the British rock band's revival after Oasis unexpectedly announced their return. While it's no surprise (the Smiths have previously turned down similar offers for a reunion tour), Morrissey seemed emboldened to suppress any excitement about a pact between himself and bandmate Johnny Marr.
Marr 'ignored' Smiths 2025 reunion offer – Morrissey
A statement posted on his website, “Morrissey Central,” on Thursday said the duo had received a “lucrative offer” to tour worldwide as the Smiths in 2025. “Morrissey accepted the offer, Marr declined,” the statement said. “Morrissey will embark on a largely sold-out US tour in November.
The Smiths split in 1987, and like the Oasis brothers, Marr and Morrissey have rarely spoken since, both performing solo (Smiths bassist Andy Rourke died in 2023). Marr slyly responded to fans fantasizing about the Smiths reunion tour on August 26 via X with a photo of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
