Moto Z4 review: is this the Moto Z "4" YOU?
Motorola’s Moto Z was a bold idea when it launched in 2016, offering an easy way for people to augment, personalize, and enhance a smartphone by clipping magnetic Moto Mods accessories onto the back. The smartphone market has changed a lot in the past three years, but Motorola continues to push the concept with the new Moto Z4.
Now packed with upper-mid-range specs and features, the Moto Z4 still offers the ability to easily attach things like battery packs, back covers, and even a high-speed 5G network mod, but the premise of the Moto Mods isn’t the game-changing breakthrough Motorola expected it to be, and the company’s insistence on the concept has yielded progressively less exciting results over time. What makes the Moto Z4 so special in 2019, then? Not much, we’re afraid.
The shape and feel of the Moto Z has remained largely the same over the years to accommodate existing Moto Mods, but the front of the phone has adapted to keep up with the changing trends. On the Moto Z4, that means the screen dominates much of the face, with a small waterdrop notch at the top of the display to house the front-facing selfie camera. It’s much smaller than the notch on the iPhone XS or Pixel 3 XL, and closer to what you’ll find on the OnePlus 6T.
