Noticeably absent from cable news Monday morning was Morning Joe. MSNBC took over the program, instead providing commentary on NBC News and NBC News Now, which was carrying special coverage of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

The show, hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, is expected to return to air on Tuesday.
CNN's Oliver Darcy, citing a person familiar with the matter, reported that MSNBC's decision was made out of concern that a guest "might make an inappropriate comment" that would spark a larger backlash against the show and the network. But an MSNBC spokesperson denied that characterization, noting that the network has been in the news since the Trump rally shooting.
Before the shooting at a rally on Saturday, Scarborough and Brzezinski were heavily critical of the former president.
