Professional MTG player disqualified from Pro Tour

The modern format in MTG features wild decks that can end games on turn three. With all the different combinations that builds can create, it’s easy to cheat or make a mistake. Round 13 of the MH3 Pro Tour in Amsterdam saw one such misstep in what could have been a mistake or cheat. Bart Van Etten from the Netherlands was disqualified for a misplay that neither player caught during the match, allowing former world champion Javier Dominguez to advance to Round 14, which he won and placed in the top eight.

Events went down during game two between Bart and Dominguez. Bart, playing Mono-Black Grief, smashed Dominguez's life totals with Nethergoyf. Dominguez played Jesaki Control and played Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury with the intention of killing the Nethergoyf which had a toughness of three.

Bart plays a Not Dead After All (Not Dead Yet) to save the Nethergoyf, increasing the creature's toughness to four since the Instant has been added to cards in the graveyard. However, in what was either a misplay or a blatant cheat, Bart asks for a Wicked Role token and places it on the Nethergoyf. However, the Aura should never have been placed on the Nethergoyf, since it technically never died.
