The NBA on Friday decided to drop an ambitious legal effort by Warner Bros. Discovery to force the league to return some of its media rights to the company. In documents filed with the New York State Supreme Court, the NBA asked for the case to be dismissed, alleging that Warner had in fact failed to meet the terms of a package of games set aside for Amazon's Prime Video, and in a letter detailing how the company, its former longtime sports media ally, had attempted to broker an alternative deal that did not in fact offer the same things as Amazon.

Spokespeople for the NBA and Warner's TNT Sports did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The NBA said in its filing that it planned to seek dismissal at a hearing on Oct. 4 in New York City.
