The NCIS: Origins team is growing: Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan are joining the NCIS prequel debuting October 14 on CBS.

Petty will play an assistant coroner, while Moynihan will take on the role of lead forensic analyst. Their additions to the cast were announced Saturday during the show's TCA panel, which also included former NCIS star Mark Harmon, who serves as executive producer and narrator of the prequel. The showrunners are Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North.
Harmon's son Sean, who recurred on NCIS as a younger Jethro in seven episodes from 2008-2020, also joined the producers on stage. He was the one who first pitched the idea, and was asked to explain why he wasn't playing his father's character (the role went to Bridge of Spies' Austin Stowell).
“It was an honor to step into this world and play a character that my father created. It’s always been close to my heart,” explained Sean Harmon, who also has an EP title for the prequel. “I never really wanted to make it a career. I was excited to take on the role of executive producer.”
