Netflix, NFL strike deal to air Christmas Day games, another streaming exclusive
Netflix is tapping CBS Sports to produce the two National Football League games the streamer will air this Christmas.
The Wall St. Journal reports that the one-year deal with CBS Sports is for production of the games only, and does not include the selection of on-air talent. While that doesn't rule out the use of CBS commentators, Netflix could choose to put its own stamp on the game with other choices, the WSJ reports.
CBS will receive a production fee for the two games, as well as promotional spots for its own programming. CBS will also receive advertising space in the games’ broadcasts in the local markets of the participating teams. Games that are streamed or broadcast on cable must be made available on local over-the-air television in the cities of the teams playing, the NFL notes.
