Netgear’s Nighthawk X4 Wi-Fi Mesh Extender (EX7300v2) is a real winner when it comes to Wi-Fi signal extenders. It has a wall-plug design, but offers faster speeds than some of the more basic plug-in models out there, but it’s not as bulky as some extenders that are almost as big as routers themselves.
It also has advanced technologies like MU-MIMO and beamforming, so it feels like a fully capable device. You’ll pay a little more for this compared to some of the entry-level plug-in Wi-Fi extenders, but if your home is plagued by wireless dead zones or you simply want a more consistent, high-speed signal throughout your home, this is a great option. I tested the Netgear Nighthawk X4 in my home over several days for a variety of needs, including everyday work, online gaming, and media streaming.
At just over 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide, the Netgear Nighthawk X4 Wi-Fi Mesh Extender may seem a bit too big to hang from an outlet, but most of its weight is concentrated at the base where it plugs into the wall. It only takes up one plug in an outlet, leaving the other one free, and it stays securely in place during use.
