Apple's third-generation AirPods will be released next week, the company announced Monday during its October keynote.

The third-generation earbuds come with the H1 chip, spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, and custom low-distortion drivers that promise to deliver powerful bass and clear high frequencies, according to Apple. They are sweat and water resistant, and have a new contoured design. Some will be happy to know that the stem on the AirPods is now shorter than on the previous generation, making for a more subtle look.

The new AirPods also feature Adaptive EQ, which Apple first introduced in the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. It is said to tune music in real time based on the shape of your ear, to deliver a consistent listening experience. An inward-facing microphone monitors the sounds coming from the earbuds, and then Adaptive EQ fine-tunes the low and mid-range frequencies to compensate for any loss that can occur due to variations in fit, Apple says.

The third-generation AirPods have a larger battery that lasts up to six hours on a single charge, an hour more than the previous generation offered. It can also get up to four hours of talk time. With four total charges in the case, they can get a total of 30 hours of listening time, Apple said. Five minutes of charging will give the AirPods about an hour of use if you need to quickly charge. Apple is also adding MagSafe wireless charging to the case, something that was previously only available on iPhones and the Apple Watch.
