Proton has been on a roll lately, delivering new privacy-focused features like discreet icons for its VPN app and secure link sharing for Proton Pass. Today’s updates once again focus on its password manager.
Getting Started with Proton Pass | Tutorial
Like other password managers, Proton Pass makes it easier to autofill form data. The new Identities feature, detailed in Proton’s blog post today, lets you prefill your name, email address, address, etc. once, then load it into a form as needed.
Proton’s new Identities feature allows you to fill out forms much faster than before. All the information you would normally enter manually when prompted, such as payment details, gender, phone number, and even your social security number and government ID, can be securely stored in Proton Pass as part of an Identity. Multiple Identities are supported, you can share an Identity’s details via a secure link, and all data is encrypted just like your other Proton Pass data. Paid users also have access to custom fields.
Another handy feature now available in Proton Pass is biometric authentication, which allows you to unlock the app using just your fingerprint. You’ll recognize this if you’re using the mobile app. Now it’s available via the desktop app if your computer has a fingerprint reader; enable it in Settings > Security. If your fingerprint doesn’t register properly, you can always fall back on entering your PIN.
