The classic Mario spin-off from the Super Nintendo era, Super Mario RPG, is coming to the Nintendo Switch, but not as part of the SNES library.
Mario RPG SOLVED! #shorts
Super Mario RPG is a classic SNES title from the era that many were hoping would eventually make its way to the Nintendo Switch Online service, but it looks like that won’t be happening just yet. Instead, the beloved Mario spin-off is being remade for the Switch, featuring a complete graphical overhaul and what looks to be a much more cinematic presentation.
Originally released in 1996, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was one of (if not the) first turn-based adventures for Mario and his brother Luigi. Mario’s day is turned upside down when a giant sword crashes into the turtle tyrant’s castle, bringing with it a new (and far more dangerous) threat to the Mushroom Kingdom. From there, he’ll have to team up with some new and old friends—and possibly foes—in an attempt to defeat this new threat and save the day.
Besides being such a unique (at the time) departure from Mario's platforming roots, Super Mario RPG also popularized the timing-based combat system seen in other Mario RPGs since. By timing or pressing buttons while a character is using an ability, you can increase their effectiveness, or press the right button at the right time to reduce incoming damage.
