When CDPR released brand new modding tools for The Witcher 3 in late May, everyone knew big things were coming. And while it took a while, we may have our hands on one of the best Witcher 3 mods ever, allowing us to play as fully customized characters.
I retried 'The Witcher 3' with a *character creator*…
The mod, aptly named “Custom Player Characters,” was uploaded to NexusMods on July 6, alongside a full-length trailer showing off its many features. It allows Witcher players to pick out any appearance from the game to replace the grumpy old Geralt, customizing their armor, clothing, and everything in between. For those looking to ditch the sword-wielding Witcher gameplay, there’s even a fully integrated magical combat system with customizable spells and effects.
To avoid the weirdness of having Doug Cockle's awesome voice come out of Yennefer's mouth or any other female character, the modder even created a female version of Geralt's voice lines that sound really good. On the other hand, you can also play a female Witcher with moves that are just as flashy as Geralt's to add some freshness to the normal Witcher 3 gameplay.
The mod is also fantastically integrated with the vanilla game, so switching to Ciri at certain points in the story is also seamless and doesn't break your game or save. There are a few bugs present, however, which the developer has detailed on the mod's Nexus page.
