Nicole Kidman said in a new interview with L'Officiel that she's never just looking for a paycheck when she decides to star in a major Hollywood tentpole. Since the Oscar winner is praised for her work in indie films and dramas, she's always questioned when she signs on to star in big movies like the "Aquaman" franchise or 1995's "Batman Forever."

“Everyone says, ‘Why are you doing that?’” Kidman recalled the confusion over her casting in “Batman Forever” as Dr. Chase Meridian. “I was like, ‘Because I get to kiss Batman!’… What people don’t understand is that it’s not about the bill. A lot of the mainstream blockbusters that I do are hopefully different.”

Kidman was asked the same questions when she signed on to play Queen Atlanna in "Aquaman," a role she reprised in the sequel "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." She may not have had a passion for the "Aquaman" comics, but she did have a passion for director James Wan and his horror films. She signed on for him. In fact, Kidman was thrilled when he called her for the role, as she initially thought it would be for a horror film.
