Nintendo makes sharing images from the Switch even more annoying

On May 8, Nintendo confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that the Switch will no longer be able to share screenshots directly from the console to X starting June 10. This change will further complicate the process of sharing game images.

The SCARY Nintendo Switch Errors…

X's Gaming Division was quick to respond to this change, stating that their relationship with Nintendo was stronger than ever and that they were actively working with the company. They also confirmed that in order to upload gameplay from the Nintendo Switch, users will first need to upload the files to their smartphones and then be able to post the content natively to X later. This change will go into effect on June 11.

According to several reports, Nintendo made this decision thanks to some changes in the cost of the API that X uses to integrate with these types of platforms. These reports suggest that the company has to pay up to $40,000 per month to keep this feature available to users. The community also shared numerous articles talking about how this was already happening with Xbox and PlayStation, noting that X owner Elon Musk wants to generate more revenue from these types of features. All of these companies refused to pay for the new pricing structure and simply removed the feature from their console operating system.

This API from X allows third-party companies to integrate the social media site into their hardware or software for direct uploading to X. Musk's company reportedly charges larger companies between $42,000 and $210,000 per month to use this API.
