Japan's Nippon TV and British indie channel Anyway Content are bringing a comedy series to MIPCOM Cannes about a young British woman pursuing her dream of becoming a manga artist.
The duo have teamed up to develop How to be a Sensei, which will be written by multiple Asian Academy Creative Award winner Itaru Mizuno, director of the 2023 hit Rebooting, alongside award-winning British comedy writer Zoë Tomalin, whose credits include Have I Got News For You and Hypothetical.
In How to be a Sensei, the protagonist takes her manga quest to Tokyo, where she visits various iconic and underground locations. The hour-long series of episodes is in advanced development, following a writing room recently held in the Japanese capital.
