Abyss has finally made it into the VCT map pool for the second stage of the playoffs and VALORANT fans were able to see several pros fall almost immediately in the important elimination match between KRÜ Esports and Cloud9.
VALORANT'S NEW MAP IS HILARIOUS
The VCT Americas Phase Two Playoffs kicked off on July 17th with the regional debut of VALORANT’s newest map, Abyss. What sets this map apart from the rest is that agents can fall over the edge and automatically die if they’re not careful. Naturally, this made it even more exciting to watch between two playoff teams: Cloud9 and KRÜ. After choosing Abyss as their map choice, two C9 players became the first victims, falling to their doom for two very different reasons.
First, C9’s vanity took a hard fall in the middle of an intense two-on-two situation in round 12. Just as the VALORANT IGL was preparing to blindly use his Omen, he took a step back, not realizing how close he was to the edge. Fans could only watch as vanity attempted to teleport back with Shrouded Step, but it was too late. This left his teammate moose alone to grab hold and score the final two kills against KRÜ. Thanks to moose, vanity’s awkward fall didn’t cost C9 the round, and the two were able to share a nice laugh to close out the half.
Just two rounds later, Moose also fell off the edge, except this time it was very intentional. After losing the pistol round, C9 had a clear weapon disadvantage and nearly aced KRÜ's Heat. But Moose had other plans. He quickly ran away, collected an ult-orb, and walked off the map before Heat or anyone else could get the kill.
