Oculus Go Review! The All-in-one VR Headset
As fun as roaming around in Skyrim VR can be, sometimes we just want to kick back and enjoy a more relaxing VR experience. Oculus attempts to fill this void with the Oculus Go, a standalone, cable-free headset that packs more power than a smartphone but doesn’t really try to compete with the PC VR market. Its app store is just as unique as the headset, filled with plenty of experimental work aimed at distilling the fun down to simple mechanics that work wonders with the Go’s pointer-style controller.
The Oculus Go takes heavy design cues from the older Oculus Rift, with a sleek, rounded chassis that looks like it belongs in a futuristic utopia. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and features chunky velcro straps. While it does slide down the nose a bit, we were impressed with how balanced and weightless the headset felt.
On the headset, you’ll have a volume control, a power button, a micro USB charging port, and a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones. You won’t need headphones, though, as Oculus has hidden speakers in the underside of the hook-and-loop straps, so you can listen to your VR world without any extra peripherals.
