Rumor has it that a software upgrade is coming to the Oculus Quest 2, which would make the virtual world much more visible on the headset.
This can DESTROY your Oculus Quest 2! 😱
During a recent Instagram Q&A, Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, vice president of Facebook Reality Labs, which makes the headset, gave the headset a thumbs up when asked if the Oculus Quest 2 would get an upgrade to a 120Hz refresh rate. The update would be a significant improvement over the headset’s current 90Hz refresh rate, observers say.
“A high refresh rate not only means a smoother experience, but also a more immersive experience, and the jump to 120Hz is substantial enough to have a real-world effect,” said Kaelum Ross, a former VR pro at Fujitsu, in an email interview. “For VR users who suffer from nausea, this is also really exciting news, as a higher refresh rate can dramatically reduce motion sickness.”
Ross said he’s seen firsthand the dramatic difference a higher refresh rate can make. “I’ve seen this happen in real-time, where people could run a 144hz Valve Index without feeling sick in a demo, but couldn’t run a 90hz Vive Pro,” he added.
