After several users reported skin irritation from the foam inserts in the Oculus Quest 2, Oculus has initiated a voluntary recall and is offering owners free silicone cases.
Oculus Quest 2 recall? Skin irritation?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), more than 5,700 users have reported skin irritation (45 of which required medical attention) caused by the Oculus Quest 2's foam insert. While this is a relatively small number compared to the approximately 4 million units sold, it is enough for Oculus to initiate a voluntary recall of the "foam facial interface."
It’s worth noting that the recall is happening at the retail level, and Oculus is temporarily halting sales while everything is being resolved. Another option is being offered to individual device owners. Instead of sending their Quest 2 headsets back, users can request a free silicone case through the My Devices page on the official site.
The affected Oculus Quest 2 models are listed in the image below, and the CPSC has stated that headsets with those specific serial numbers are the only ones included in the recall. So if your headset isn't listed, you shouldn't experience any issues. However, if you do experience any skin irritation, you should immediately stop using it and contact Oculus.
