There’s nothing wrong with sticking sticky notes to your computer screen: it’s quick and easy. It also gets in the way a bit, meaning that whatever you write down is hard to forget. It doesn’t work well for modern Macs, though, with their small bezels. Meanwhile, there’s this menu bar that takes up all sorts of real estate on your Mac, most of it empty. Why not use some of that real estate as a virtual sticky note?
The best Mac OS Sticky Notes app for free
One Thing is a simple app that allows you to do just that. You can click on this application at any time to send yourself a message.
Type whatever you want here and it will appear in the menu bar. You can add emojis for emphasis or use Markdown, a simple markup language, to format your text or even add a clickable link. There’s only one thing to leave behind, as the app’s name suggests: it’s meant to be used to remind yourself what you should be working on at any given moment. But it’s just as good for reminders, or even a little note of encouragement to yourself.
There are a few customization options: You can change the max width, the font size, and the color. You can also change the alignment, which is useful if another app you're using has text that doesn't quite match One Thing.
