How can I open or view EPUB files in Windows without using third-party software?
Microsoft Edge used to let you read your favorite eBooks right in the browser. Microsoft enabled the ability to open EPUB files with the Windows 10 Creators Update, which brought a bunch of features, including EPUB file format support.
Adding EPUB support to Edge was a strategic decision since Microsoft sold eBooks in the Microsoft Store app. In July 2019, when Microsoft removed eBooks entirely, they also removed support for EPUB files, meaning you can no longer open eBooks with the .epub extension in Microsoft Edge.
Fortunately, you can open EPUB files on Windows with an application that supports them. You can then convert the EPUB files to other supported file formats and then read them on your PC.
