Ever since Blizzard Entertainment overhauled Overwatch 2 and moved the game to a 5v5 system, the community has been clamoring for a return to 6v6. In the wake of the game's latest midseason update, those voices have only grown louder, especially given how controversial the changes have been.
WE MADE 6V6 IN OVERWATCH 2
The latest update introduced changes to the tank role that could cause major shifts in the competitive meta, including huge buffs to Mauga’s Cardiac Overdrive, Ramattra’s durability, and boosts to Winston. The Overwatch community is once again outraged by the state of the game, and it’s given people even more reason to want 6v6 back.
"Counter-tank picking will be even more pronounced, [and] tanks will be even more 'responsible' for a loss, according to their teammates," said one user on the Overwatch subreddit. "It will be even more important to play one of the meta tanks. This patch makes all the problems with tanks even worse."
However, other players were quick to point out that the return of 6v6 would also bring back one of the biggest problems Overwatch had with its original system: disgustingly long queues. Players know that the tank player base is unlikely to grow even with the switch back to 6v6, causing wait times to skyrocket for everyone.
