Nowadays, cheating is rampant in online games, especially in free-to-play games like Overwatch 2. And it even happens on consoles.
OVERWATCH 2 BANNED KEYBOARD AND MOUSE ON CONSOLE
In the latest Director's Take blog for OW2, gameplay engineer Daniel Razza explained the steps Blizzard is taking to ensure fair play on console, focusing on players who use "unapproved peripherals" to gain an unfair advantage.
“Our goal is for Overwatch 2 to be a great experience no matter what platform you play on,” Razza said. “The game feels best when matches are close and competitive, and everyone is on an even playing field. To achieve this, we’ve tailored the experience on console by adding console-specific features like aim assist, which helps bridge the gap in aiming precision between a mouse and a controller. Unfortunately, some players have been using devices on console that allow them to use a mouse and keyboard while fooling the console into thinking their input is coming from a controller.”
Razza explained that some peripherals are intended for accessibility, but the peripherals in question, called "unapproved peripherals," are intended to take advantage of aim assist while peripherals are used "that were never intended to take advantage" of accessibility features. One common, popular peripheral is made by a company known as XIM.
